Genesis Home Helps Renters Become Owners

Genesis Home is a new program that helps prepare families to make the leap from renters to home owners. It is sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph Neighborhood Network and is designed specifically to encourage responsible and affordable home ownership in the Little Italy neighborhood.

Home ownership is a big part of the American Dream and a major contributor to the stability of a family and a neighborhood, but purchasing and maintaining your own home can be a complex, time-consuming undertaking if you aren’t prepared for it. The goal of Genesis Home is to prepare you.

A few of the common steps to take when preparing to buy a home include making sure your credit is in good standing, working with a loan officer and getting bank approval, being prepared to properly maintain your new home after you’ve purchased it, and managing a budget. All of this takes time and effort, especially for a would-be first-time home buyer who is currently paying rent. Genesis Home can help guide you through the process in as little as 12 to 16 months.

Take a look at the tidy three-bedroom rental home in this picture:

Genesis Home will rent this property at a very reasonable rate to any family who wants to learn and practice the necessary discipline to become first-time home buyers. The family gets to stay to stay in decent housing for a decent price while the Genesis Home staff teaches them how to budget and pay bills, repair their credit, work with banks and loan officers, and maintain their property.
